Lindquist, von Husen & Joyce LLP

To support a stronger brand position, this California-based CPA and advisory firm worked with our team to conduct a confidential, employee engagement survey. The survey was enhanced with several anonymous employee phone interviews.

The firm’s initial goal was to get a baseline for employee satisfaction. We recommended questions that addressed remote and hybrid work arrangements, training and development as well as communication throughout the firm.

Our experience with talent brands and engagement for CPA firm marketing and recruitment helped us to create the staff survey questions that resulted in the most robust feedback. Aware of the trend for survey fatigue, we kept the survey short and offered comment boxes throughout. We also created a variety of question types for quick responses.

To help promote the value of the survey, we created several emails that ensured the employees of anonymity and encouraged them to participate. Ingenuity maintained independent collection of data, and the resulting raw data was not shared with the client.

Strategy and Consulting Value

Ingenuity approaches survey analysis from a macro view and a micro view. We apply survey methodology to our experience with hundreds of professional service providers across the country. Autonomously, we compare firm leader feedback to the data we collect from employees.

It is important to us that our conclusions are unbiased.

Our analysis not only reviews overall answers to staff survey questions, but we also cross-reference answers among different questions. We clarify the data for constructive recommendations to the firm.

For example, answers about the nature of monthly meetings will be cross-referenced with answers about timely work feedback and career development.

Through our consultative analysis and cross-referencing, we share specific calls to action for the firm. For LvHJ, these recommendations addressed various business goals ranging from recruitment and retention strategies to staff development and timely internal feedback.

We provide aggregate recommendations that maintain the confidentiality of individual employees. The only detail we typically analyze is length of employment to compare and contrast the experience of new employees with longer-term employee engagement.

Results and Follow-Up

For this survey, the resulting data required additional research. We conducted several phone interviews with randomly chosen employees who volunteered to talk to us confidentially. This anonymous data clarified our conclusions about what this firm was  doing well as well as areas for improvement.

Shortly after concluding the employee engagement survey, we helped the firm collect more data through a short office work arrangement survey. We had enough data to keep this survey even shorter and pinpoint areas of opportunity for LvHJ’s future officing arrangements.
